We had the opportunity to catch up with actress/Playmate turned author, Brande Roderick, to get the scoop on her new book, Bounce, Don’t Break: Brande’s Guide to Life, Love, and Success.

Best known for her acting career with starring roles in movies such as Starsky & Hutch, Dracula II and The Nanny Diaries and on television in Baywatch Hawaii, Surreal Life, Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, and most recently, E!’s Bridalplasty, to name a few, Brande Roderick is a self-declared workaholic. In 2001, the blonde beauty received the coveted title of Playmate of the Year. Today, this busy (and expecting!) mom and wife juggles her family life with her acting career and the launch of her new book and we have the secrets to her success:

10 Questions with Brande Roderick

1. What inspired you to write Bounce, Don’t Break?
I’ve always been known as the mother hen of the playmates and the girls were always coming to me for advice on dating, career, and money management. So I figured why not put it down on paper? And it was books like mine that have gotten me through some difficult and confusing times, so if I could help at least one person even if it was in a small way, I wanted to be able to help.

2. Who should read Bounce, Don’t Break? Any girl who wants to hear my stories and advice on life, love and success, or any guy who might want to understand women a little better.

3. What words of advice do you wish you would have received that you offer to your readers? If you’re willing to put in the hard work, you can achieve anything. Also ,don’t chase a man. Let him chase you.

4. In your book, you offer readers advice to find success. How do you define success? When you’ve gotten to a place in your life that you can finally stop and smell the roses.

5. From Playmate to Celebrity Apprentice contestant to author, how do you have enough energy to keep up with your demanding schedule? I actually feel like a walking zombie sometimes. But for me, knowing that it’s all for my little man (my son) helps to make it a little easier because I know that by me working so hard at that moment I’ll be able to spend more quality one-on-one time with him when I’m finished.

6. Can readers expect any juicy behind the scenes details from your experiences at the Playboy Mansion or on the set of Celebrity Apprentice?
Yes! I actually I have a whole chapter about my Celebrity Apprentice experience and all the things that you didn’t see on TV. And I also have a chapter about my Playboy experience as well with all the juicy details!!!

7. The subtitle of your book, Brande’s Guide to Life, Love and Success, points out the juggling act that women face. So can you really have it all?   Yes, you really can have it all.  I’m not saying that it’s easy.  I’m definitely not saying that. But it is attainable.

8. Any dating tips for all the single ladies (or gents)? Girls, don’t go out there and be asking all kinds of guys out. Let yourself be approachable and let the guys ask you out.  And if a committed relationship is what you want, then go on eharmony.com.  I know so many women that have met their significant others on that. But remember, let the guy contact you on the site. And as far as guys go:  Guys, if you know you’re not interested in a girl, don’t string her along.  Please set her free so she can be ready when her Mr. Right comes along.

9. What do you like to do in your downtime? Any downtime right now is spent with my son.  But when I’m not working and I have even more downtime, I’ll sometimes meet up with my girlfriends for a spa day!!!

10. You have great hair! Any styling secrets? Always, I repeat, always use the adapter that goes on the nozzle of your blow-dryer. Never blow-dry your hair without it. Your hair will be smoother and healthier because of it. When you don’t use it, your hair burns and frizzes.

The Look - Brande Roderick

Between juggling life as a mom, wife and author, Brande Roderick is one busy lady! To keep up with her demanding schedule, Brande was looking for a fuss-free, low maintenance style.

To prime Brande’s hair for color, professional stylist Cyndi Hauser, started with the ENJOY Intensive Reconstructing Treatment. Clarifying Spray was applied to ensure a clean palette before gently cleansing her hair with Sulfate-Free Shampoo. After rinsing, Cyndi spritzed on Intensive Reconstructing Spray (I.R.S.) to recondition Brande’s blonde tresses and combat further damage. With I.R.S. still on her hair, Cyndi applied Instant Reconstructor, intensifying the strengthening benefits.

Post treatment, Brande was ready for color. A natural level 6, Brande was looking for something to break up her bright blonde strands while being easy to maintain. Using ENJOY Hairdresser Power Hair Color, Cyndi applied a base color of one part 9 BV to two parts 20 Volume Gel Developer. To add some dimension, Cyndi added some lowlights using 7G and 9GC each mixed with equal parts Demi Gel Developer. Finally, to maintain her sunny California-girl look, Cyndi added some highlights using ENJOY Hair Lightener mixed with 10 Volume Gel Developer.

For the cut, Cyndi kept it simple by cleaning up Brande’s layers while adding some texture and movement, enabling her to keep the length of the hair. With color and cut complete, Cyndi started her style by detangling with a mist of  Conditioning Spray. Then she added some oomph to Brande’s new look by applying Volumizing Mousse at the root for lift and body. To keep Brande frizz-free and smooth, Intensive Hair and Skin Treatment Oil and Straightener were applied throughout the lengths of her hair. Finally, Cyndi blow dried Brande’s hair using a large round brush, creating a smooth, voluminous finish. A look fit for a star but functional enough for a busy mom!
