La Condesa: Mexican Food with a Modern Twist

If you find yourself hungry in downtown Austin, you must make your way to La Condesa. Located just across the street from the world-famous Moody Theater, home of Austin City Limits, La Condesa is not your traditional Mexican restaurant.

LA_CONDESA_FOOD Headed by Executive Chef Rene Ortiz and Pastry Chef Laura Sawicki, they have put a fresh and modern twist on traditional Mexican fare.

Using only the freshest ingredients, everything from their tacos to their tortas are worth trying, again and again and again. It is quite easy to get addicted to the fresh corn and flour tortillas loaded with marinated and freshly grilled meats. And with toppings such as habanero mustard and white butter beans, nothing on the menu is worth passing up. And when all of the mouthwatering food has left you a bit parched, La Condesa also features the largest selection of Tequila in Austin. If Tequila just isn’t your thing and your heart is set on a cocktail or craft beer, then you have nothing to worry about. The bar program is headed by Cocktail World Cup Champion Nate Wales. Nate and his bar staff have created several cocktails as well as a nice beer and wine selections that complement the fresh and delicious food coming out of the kitchen.

…nothing on the menu is worth passing up.

Of course, having an in-house pastry chef allows you to offer much more than handmade tortillas. The dessert menu at La Condesa is just as unique and amazing as the rest of the food offered here. From a goat milk ice cream sandwich (yummy!), to the beet cake with chocolate mousse or the more traditional Dulce de Leche, Chef Laura’s unique creations fit right in and are a perfect end to any of La Condesa’s delicious meals.

Patrick hung out with Chef de Cuisine Rick Lopez for a tutorial on how to make one of La Condesa’s signature dishes, Acapulco Ceviche. Check out the video to see Chef Rick in action and try your hand at this cool, refreshing Mexican seafood treat!
