The Nightly Skincare Routine You SHOULD Be Following

It’s 10PM and you’re exhausted from a long day of working out, working, grocery shopping, cooking dinner, and catching up on missed Revenge episodes. You simply cannot stay up another 5 minutes to wash your face…

Well we have news for you: your skin had a long day too! It carried around makeup, dirt, oil and airborne pollutants. And while you’ll get to wake up feeling refreshed, your appearance won’t show it, as your unwashed skin will be left looking tired and dull, with a few new blackheads and pimples to show for it. Continue that pattern and you’re headed for acne and premature fine lines.

So struggle through a few extra minutes before bed to follow this foolproof nightly skincare routine, and your skin will thank you with a fresh, glowing radiance.

NIGHTLY:

Cleanse
This is the first and most important step, and we simply beg of you- if you do nothing else, at least wash your face! It’s vitally important to wash off not only your makeup and excess oil, but all of the airborne dirt and pollutants your skin has unknowingly collected during the day. No matter your skin type, choose a cleanser than cleanses these impurities away without completely stripping your skin. We recommend a gentle cleanser like Fresh Soy Face Cleanser.

We know we raved about cleansing, and we still standby that being the most important step. However, even the best cleanser can leave traces behind. A toner will clean up the cleansers mess, and help to restore the pH levels of your skin. Be sure to choose one without alcohol. We’re partial to plain jane witch hazel, and Thayers Original Witch Hazel with Organic Aloe Vera is our favorite!

In come the heavy hitters! What’s so special about a serum is that it targets the same issues you see moisturizers targeting, but in a more concentrated form without all of the fillers. Whether you’re looking to diminish fine lines, acne, dark spots or more, a serum is where it’s at. Ole Henrickson’s Truth Serum is a Vitamin C collagen boosting serum that tightens and brightens.

The skin around the eyes is much thinner and sensitive than the skin on the rest of your face, and *GASP*, it’s the first spot on your face to start showing age. To mention the unmentionables, crows feet, dark circles, puffiness, etc. are all battles your eyes fight that require their own special products. Clinique’s All About Eyes has been a cult favorite for quite sometime, targeting puffiness, darkness, and fine lines.

There’s a serious misconception that moisturizer can cause you to breakout. And while this is sometimes true if you’re using a product made with low-quality ingredients or one that’s not right for your skin type, the opposite is usually true. Even if you do use all of the correct cleansing and toning products for your skin type, you’re still removing some of its natural oils. If you don’t replace this oil, your skin feels tight and dry and ends up pumping out extra oil to compensate, and this is what can cause oily skin and breakouts. To replace that moisture, try a product like Origin’s High Potency Night-A-Mins Enriched Renewal Cream, which is filled with vitamins to helps your skin wake up radiant and refreshed.

Clairsonic Face Mask
Depending on your skin type and the results you’re after, a face mask can be a great way to give your skin an extra boost throughout the week. Along with thousands of other beauty gurus, we’re currently obsessed with this Aztec Clay Mask. Never have our pores looked so small and our skin so clear!
