The Magic DIY 2 Ingredient Lip Plumper

If there’s a women out there who doesn’t wish her lips were a little bit fuller, we haven’t met her yet. Pouty lips are synonymous with beauty, youth, and good health. And while you can fake fuller lips in 2 minutes with makeup tricks, sometimes you just want a quick swipe of something that actually puffs your lips up, and this DIY lip plumper is just that. Everyone who tries it loves it!

We aren’t suggesting there’s anything wrong with store-bought plumpers, but if you can make your own for a fraction of the cost and know exactly what ingredients are in it, then why on earth wouldn’t you?! Plus it’s kind of cool to brag about having made it on your own.

The magic ingredient is cinnamon oil. And maybe you already had a hunch considering a lot of store-bought plumpers include cinnamon, which you can often tell by their scent. Like all lip plumpers do, it works by irritating and inflaming the mucous membranes so a rush of blood flows to the area, causing the lips swell. And while that sounds painful and unhealthy, at least when using this recipe, you know cinnamon oil is a safe and edible substance. The other added bonus? It causes a pretty pink flush to the lips.

The second ingredient can be almost anything you want to use as a carrier for the oil. To keep things simple and healthy, we recommend vaseline or shea butter, which you probably already have on hand.

You’ll need:
Cinnamon oil (available in any health food store, Drugstore.com, or on Amazon)
A carrier (vaseline, shea butter, clear & unscented lipgloss, etc.)
A small container (Clean out an old Sephora sample container if you have one!)

To Make:
A good rule of thumb is 4-5 drops of cinnamon oil to 1/2 ounce of your chosen carrier. But we urge you experiment first, because cinnamon oil is no joke. It’s a lot stronger than you think it’s going to be. So start small. You can always add more, but you can’t take away.

If you want to get really fancy, you can add some color using this custom lip gloss recipe. Or for even BIGGER lips, combine this DIY plumper with the power of one of these lip plumping devices, and you’ll be vying for Angelina Jolie’s job is no time.
