Even though we have an extreme obsession with all things beauty, it doesn’t mean we’ll do or use absolutely anything to achieve it…‘health’ is in our name, after all. We try to stay conscious of potentially harmful ingredients, and use all-natural products when we can. The problem is that the FDA doesn’t currently regulate the beauty industry, so unless you’re educating yourself about potential dangers and checking your ingredient labels, you could be unknowingly coming into contact with hundreds of harmful ingredients every single day. The good news? This could change soon thanks to the Personal Care Products Safety Act.
“There’s been a lot of pressure for more regulation of the cosmetics industry from environmental groups over the years,” says Jeannette Graf, a dermatologist in Great Neck, New York. “If this bill passes, the FDA is going to have to determine safe levels of ingredients like quaternium-15, a potential allergen, in products.”
