Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa offers a luxurious retreat that summons hopeless romantics, discerning honeymooners, and fun-seeking families alike. Located at the dramatic point on the beach where the legendary Pu‘u Keka‘a or Black Rock of Kā’anapali meets the ocean, this impressive 23-acre oceanfront resort offers ways to make any stay memorable, allowing guests to experience the best that Maui has to offer.

In addition to luxurious rooms with spectacular views, guests can swim through the enticing Lagoon Pool, rejuvenate at The Spa at Black Rock, or stay active at the state-of-the-art Sheraton Fitness Center. There are also low-key adventures including a Hawaiian nature walk, yoga and pilates classes, or even engaging talks with marine naturalists.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy Hawaiian culture through traditional lei making with locally picked flowers, Hawaiian arts and crafts or games, or even with Hula dancing or ukulele lessons. Dining options at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa include international favorites, contemporary Hawaiian creations, and exceptional fine dining menus, each as rich and varied as the hues in a Kā’anapali sunset.

Those with an adventurous spirit can get out on the ocean with outrigger canoe tours, go kayaking with dolphins, or even take paddle-boarding lessons. There are also underwater wonders to discover with introductory scuba or snuba lessons, or even clear-water snorkeling with sea turtles.

As the sun sets over Black Rock, the magic of the island can be experienced with the nightly Torch Lighting and Cliff Dive Ceremony, found only at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. At the foot of the famous cliff diving point, the Maui Nui Lu’au comes to life at night, sharing the music, dance, and history of the islands.

Truly an experience to remember!

Experience Maui’s Tradition - Torch Lighting & Cliff Dive Ceremony

A stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa takes on a mystic feel as you gather at sunset to experience a bit of Hawaiian legend. Hawaiians believe that Pu’u Keka’a (or Black Rock) is one of three places where souls of the dead leap from earth into their ancestral spirit land. Only a person with great spiritual strength can enter that world and return, and that person was Maui’s last chief, King Kahekili.

Kahekili gained much respect from leaping feet first from heights as high as 300 to 400 feet, plunging into the water below, and returning unscathed. His greatest leap was from Black Rock, where the Maui Sheraton now recreates the honors of this rich tradition every sunset. The nightly ritual of Lele Kawa, or cliff diving, begins just before sunset. A chant of old Hawai’i signals its start, and the echo of a conch shell announces the arrival of the young cliff diving warrior.

Snag a spot along the beach or the Cliff Dive Grill and watch the cliff diver run through the grounds of the resort carrying a glowing torch, lighting more along his path to the top of Black Rock. He acknowledges the ancient Hawaiian gods by offering high lei to the heavens above before taking the leap into the ocean below, falling into the water along with the sun. Don’t miss this extraordinary display of Hawaiian tradition.
