Every woman desires to age gracefully like a Christie Brinkley or our cover girl, Kathy Ireland. Luckily, middle-aged women can easily maintain their health by following a few simple tips.
Eat Healthy Foods:
A woman who enjoys a diet filled with healthy foods is a woman more likely to age well. Maintaining good health requires good food. Women are able to lower their cholesterol levels and avoid an array of diseases when they choose healthy foods like:
- Dairy products (if you have no allergies to dair products)
- Healthy grains
- Lean protein
- Limited salt and high fat foods.
Many women feel as though they do not have enough time in their day to exercise. Embarking on an exercise program of three times a week for even 30 minutes will help maintain or improve your health. The key is to choose a fitness routine that energizes you. All women just need to find an exercise that they love so that they will be more likely to maintain the exercise routine.
Make Time For Health Screenings:
One of the best ways a woman is able to maintain her health is to have regular medical screenings. Yearly visits to a gynecologist for a pap smear and a mammogram will help detect any potential cancerous tissue. Many women visit thyroid specialists post-menopause to manage their hormonal symptoms. At the very least, women need to visit their doctor for a yearly physical. Their physician will be able to notice any changes in their health and help them to rectify those issues.
A woman who is able to reduce the stress in her life will be healthier than one who cannot. People don’t really understand the effect of mental health on physical health. A woman who allows herself to take even 15 minutes a day to unwind and decompress will dramatically decrease her level of stress and improve her overall health.
All women need ample Vitamin D to maintain healthy bones. The best way to obtain Vitamin D is simply by going outside. A woman who goes outside for a minimum of 10 minutes and soaks in the sun will achieve her daily dose of Vitamin D. Sunshine paired with a daily multivitamin helps to ensure that every woman is receiving the nutrients her body needs.
Get Enough Sleep:
Adequate sleep is another strong indicator of overall health. Every woman should aim for seven to eight hours of sleep a night in order to restore and rejuvenate the body. Many studies have shown that a good night’s rest will improve memory and increase creativity in addition to being good for your health.
Eliminate Harmful Activities:
Women are able to easily maintain their good health by eliminating unhealthy activities. The avoidance of sun tanning and tanning booths will help prevent skin cancer. A woman who reduces drinking to one glass of wine a day will prevent the harmful effects of alcohol, and smoking is obviously not a good idea either.
These seven tips will lead every middle-aged woman to maintain her health and enjoy her life. Even the busiest among us should have time for a few of these tips in their schedule.
