How to Get Your Make-up to Last All Day

Like taxes, root canals, and going to the DMV, constant makeup touch ups are something nobody wants to deal with. What’s more frustrating than spending precious time perfecting your makeup (especially when you get your eyeliner just right), only to have it disappear hours later?

Constant touch ups throughout the day are a luxury most of us don’t have. When life gets hectic, mascara and lip liner touchups are often the first thing to go. Heck, I run a salon and still can’t be bothered taking a second glance in the mirror. Fortunately, you don’t have to choose between ease and perfect makeup. These game-changing  tips will keep makeup looking fresh and dewy all day (yep, all day!) without being a slave to the mirror.

Keep Foundation in Place
Exfoliate your skin at least once a week and applying moisturizer every night before you go to bed. Exfoliated skin is best to work with as it creates a smooth surface that holds foundation better. Prep your skin with primer before applying a foundation that’s suited to your skin type. As a rule of thumb, less if more. Use light brush strokes to apply foundation and remember, you can always build coverage as you go.  Finish with a translucent powder to seal in the product.

Keep Lashes Curled
Heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer before curling your lashes, then follow with a sweep of mascara. Just be careful to test the heat before curling…burning delicate eyelid skin is NOT a good feeling.

Lock Lipstick in Place
Follow this simple process for a long lasting pout. For fuller lips begin by exfoliating with a toothbrush. Follow with a coat of lip balm and blot to soak the excess moisture. Apply concealer with a brush to create a neutral base for application, line your lips with a lip liner and blend slightly. Apply a coat of lipstick, blot, and add another coat of lipstick to finish!

Keep Hair Bouncy
Applying a volumizer not once, but twice to your hair- a mousse or volumizing spray when your hair is still damp and then a dry shampoo when you’re done styling your hair. This will keep your hair looking bouncy and you won’t have to worry about it going flat at some point of the day.

Make Perfume Last Longer
For fragrance that won’t disappear by lunchtime, apply a scented moisturizer right before you spritz your perfume. The oil from the lotion will help the fragrance last much longer than usual. As for my favorite little secret…I wear two of my favorite perfumes together. They create a unique fragrance that people have come to associate with me that you won’t find in any store!

Choose the Right Products
This seems painfully obvious, but go for products labeled “long-lasting” and “waterproof” on their covers. These long-lasting products are made with special polymers that can extend the wear of your makeup for hours. Humid climates and hectic days don’t stand a chance.
