Looking for simple hairstyle techniques? Who isn’t?! Try this: Soft, tousled texture that can be created two ways depending on which tool you have handy. These techniques can be used on all hair lengths, but are especially perfect for the currently trending medium length haircuts, like our gorgeous model Allison’s lobbed locks.
How to create loose curls with a curling iron or wand: Start with dry, slept-on or air-dried hair. Take 2-4 inch sections, hold by the ends and, starting 4-6 inches out from the roots, wrap section around a 1.5-2 inch curling iron. Direct all curls away from your face. Once all sections are done, spray roots with dry shampoo and tousle to break up sections and leave a fun, tousled finish.
For a looser look that still has plenty of volume and texture, use a flat iron: Begin with dry, slept-on or air-dried hair. Take uniform 2-3 inch sections 6-8 inches away from the scalp (so the curl holds better). Insert section into a flat iron, clamp down, roll the iron 180 degrees and then slide the iron with some tension through the ends. Continue with all sections alternating the curl direction.
Once all sections are done, run fingers through for a looser result, and voila- perfectly undone hair!
