Break Bad Back Habits!

break bad back habits
Almost 90% of all people experience back pain in their lifetime.

It is the second most common reason for people to visit their doctor. If you are one of the millions of people who live with back pain, you should be looking for ways to heal or prevent your pain. Medicine, physiotherapy, surgery and alternative treatments can be a part of your treatment plan. However, there are many back pain problems that are not due to a serious illness or an injury. Often, it can be the result from repeated behavior that leads to stress on your body.

If you’re fighting back pain now or if you want to prevent back pain, make the effort to avoid these 4 Habits:

1. Poor Posture

Bad posture can cause strained muscles and put stress on your spine. If you’re spending hours at a PC or slouching while watching TV, there are chances that you develop back pain over time. The spine’s natural alignment gets affected due to a bad posture and it could lead to disc pain, sciatica and other problems. Hence, to avoid this bad habit sit with your back straight, with your hips slightly higher than your knees. While watching TV make sure you keep your shoulders back and relaxed. We all love to slouch while watching our favorite TV show, but a little care can be helpful in the long run.

2. Lack of Exercise

People with a sedentary lifestyle may experience back pain at the lower, middle or upper part of your back. Those who aren’t active throughout the week must make sure they find some way to exercise their body. A lack of sufficient movement or exercise can cause stiffness in the muscles, weight gain and other irritating symptoms that contribute to an achy back. Make sure you exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week for 30 minutes.

3. Lifting Objects Incorrectly

When you lift a heavy weight incorrectly a back injury can take place, which may not seem like a big thing at that moment, but later can be a cause of pain! The correct way to lift a heavy object is to bend your knees and with the strength of your legs lift it up and keep it close to your body.

4. Insufficient Sleep

This can be one of the ‘silent’ back pain causes. We all know that our body needs at least 8 hours of continuous sleep every night. Our discs get rejuvenated and replenished while we’re asleep. Lack of proper sleep leads to other health issues along with pain in the back. To ensure that your spine stays away from problems give it what it needs - proper rest.

Avoid these 4 Bad Habits that may be giving you a painful back. If you still don’t see an improvement, visit your healthcare expert.
