It’s a new year, but that doesn’t mean new found financial security or more cash in our wallets. Choosing the perfect vacation spot to take a road trip, weekend getaway or a few days off from work often means choosing a destination that is nearby and/or affordable for the whole family.
The new Nashville offers two things: a tasty urban food scene and a rich history in music. City House is one of Nashville’s best restaurants. Serving up delectable brick-oven pizzas, City House has become a top destination. On the music front, Nashville is home to the world famous Grand Ole Opry, the CMA (Country Music Association) music festival and serves as the stage for the hit TV drama Nashville. With gourmet restaurants, rich architecture and a new $585 million 118,000 square foot convention center opening downtown this spring, there is much to taste, see and hear in this dynamic city.
New Orleans is a historical hot spot. Hosting the Superbowl in 2013, New Orleanders are bringing on the charm! With Mardi Gras on February 12th and Jazz Fest in April and May, the city plays host to musicians such as Irving Mayfield and Lucien Barbarian whose music makes the ”Crescent City”. With famous restaurants such as Café Du Monde and Palace Café in the French quarter to the bars and nightlife lining the electric Bourbon Street, New Orleans is the place to let loose and be a part of history in the making.
We’ve covered Vancouver, but a new hot spot to visit is Toronto. Listed as one of the top five cities in Canada, it is beginning to look a lot like NYC, with experts such as Trump and David Cheng’s Momofuku empire. Even better, according to BudgetTravel.com, the ethnic
culture embraces the streets from Little Italy to Chinatown and you can savor the tastes of Poland and
Greece and almost any cuisine in between.
For our “Day in Palm Springs” episode we tried to convey some of the affordable luxuries this beautiful Southern California city has to offer. From playing a round on one of the many lush golf courses to laying poolside at a sleek resort such as the Riviera, it is no wonder that the charm of Palm Springs makes it a jewel of the California dessert.
Phoenix is a great city to visit. Travelers can visit Chase Stadium, home to the MLB (Major League Baseball) team the Arizona Diamondbacks. If you’re the outdoorsy type, stunning hiking and biking trails abound, including the Apache Trail and Camelback Mountain. A quick 20 minute car ride will bring you to Scottsdale where you can jump on a trolley and explore downtown. If time permits, the breathtaking splendor of the Grand Canyon lies 220 miles from Phoenix.
