For fans of all kinds of music, a visit to Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater (ACL Live) is a one-of-a-kind Austin experience.

ACL_EXTERIOR The Moody Theater is the home of the deeply influential television series, Austin City Limits (ACL) and where live, original musical performances from both up and coming and accomplished artists are broadcast live.

The show airs every week on PBS stations nationwide, as it has since 1974 when a young Willie Nelson kicked off what would become the longest-running music program in television history.

With more than 800 concerts recorded, ACL has captured performances from legendary artists such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Emmylou Harris and Leonard Cohen as well as many of our most compelling contemporary performers including Coldplay, Pearl Jam, Norah Jones, Robert Earl Keen and Lucinda Williams. It just goes on and on.

The intimate setting and straightforward production style create performances that are mutually enjoyable for the artists as well as the audience, and the pin drop acoustics and state-of-the-art hardware make every seat great.

ACL_POSTER_01 In 2011, Austin City Limits moved production to ACL Live at The Moody Theater, a full-time music venue and art production facility with a 2700-seat capacity and a LEED certification for sustainable development.

ACL Live at The Moody Theater is much more than a concert venue. The tour includes jaw dropping photo galleries by two of the world’s most famous music photographers.

The Mezzanine Level of the theater features work of longtime Austin City Limits’ House Photographer, Scott Newton. Newton’s photos represent over 37 years of unlimited access to many of the world’s most iconic musical stars and his style captures and shapes the vibe that makes the place extraordinary and unique.

The Balcony Level presents the “Jack & Jim” Gallery, a spectacular exhibition from the estate of legendary photographer Jim Marshall. Known as the “Godfather of Music Photography,” Marshall’s work represents over 500 album covers captured over a career that spanned 50 years.

It’s easy to see why Jim Marshall’s work is widely recognized as photography that changed the way we see many of the most influential musicians of our time. Included in the spectacular array of photos is a famously incendiary shot of Johnny Cash at San Quentin Prison, iconic portraits of Janis Joplin, and The Beatles walking off the field at their last concert in 1966. Additionally, Marshall was the chief photographer at Woodstock where his unfettered access and unflinching lens created images that are as historically significant as they are breathtakingly beautiful.

Don’t miss it.
