A Romantic Dinner for Two: A Sweet Ending “Chocolate Dipped Strawberries”

As Valentine’s Day approaches, our thoughts turn to romance. In this series, we share with you how easy it is to create an intimate, romantic and delicious Italian dinner for two in under 30 minutes (You’re welcome!). Think of it as a mini-lesson in la dolce vita (the sweet life) in a 3-part series.

Part 1: Set a Romantic Scene

Part 2: The Dinner- Ravioli with Sage Butter

Part 3: A Sweet Ending…

In this third and final part of our 3-part romantic dinner series, we focus on dessert - Chocolate-dipped strawberries. This is a light yet sinfully delicious end to any romantic meal. You can make them ahead or make the dipping, eating and sharing part of the fun!

Ingredients

  • Whole, fresh ripe strawberries with the stems intact

  • 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 8 oz. heavy cream

  • A pinch of espresso powder (optional)

  • A good bottle of extra dry Champagne

  • Espresso

 Directions

Rinse the strawberries, pat dry and plate. Warm the cream over medium-high heat until tiny bubbles start to form around the edges and it just barely starts to boil. Add a pinch of salt and the espresso powder. Add the chocolate chips and wisk it all together until smooth.

If doing ahead, line a plate with wax paper or parchment. Holding the leaves, dip each strawberry up to the widest point. Allow the excess chocolate to run off. Place the berries on the wax paper to set up. Chill.

If serving at dinner, transfer the sauce to a fondue pot and light the burner. No fondue pot? No problem, just keep warm on low heat. Stir just before using to keep the sauce smooth.

Serve with chilled champagne and espresso.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
