Darn acne and its horrible sense of timing! It always knows when an important meeting or event is around the corner, and tries sabotaging it. Desperate to avoid this routine, I asked my doctor if there were any foods that could help me prevent acne for good. She gave me a list of acne preventing foods, some meant to be eaten, and others that are applied directly on the skin. Here’s how I used them with great success…
1. Drink Water
No matter the health issue, it is always recommended to drink a lot of water, and the same goes for getting rid of acne! The recommended water dosage to drink each day for adults is 64 ounces. This includes pure drinking water only, and not foods or other drinks that contain water. When the skin is hydrated, chemicals that cause acne will be minimized.
2. Blackberries, Blueberries, and other Berries with Antioxidants
Another recommendation to get rid of acne is to eat plenty of fresh berries that are full of antioxidants, such as blueberries and blackberries. Anti-oxidants have been shown to help heal the skin and prevent acne. Not only that but they taste great as well.
3. Drink Green Tea
Green tea is also full of antioxidants, along with anti-inflammatory properties. Acne is caused by inflammation of the skin, so ingesting this can really help to stop your acne breakouts. You can also use saturated green tea bags topically help reduce inflammation.
4. Drink Milk
The Vitamins A and D which are found in milk contain calcium which is a great way to keep your skin healthy.
5. Yogurt
Putting plain cold yogurt onto the face once a day (preferably in the morning) can help prevent acne. This should be left on for a minute, no more than two. Rinse off using warm water then dry your skin. Plain yogurt has vitamin A which is helpful in treating acne.
6. Apply Oatmeal
Yogurt isn’t the only facial ingredient hiding in your kitchen, oatmeal is great for acne too! Make oatmeal as you usually would and apply to the face. Oatmeal has been shown to dry the oils in the skin that cause acne.
7. Watermelon
Watermelons are full of vitamins, making this tasty fruit a great way to keep the skin healthy. Once you have eaten the watermelon, clean off the rind and rub it onto your face. The rind of watermelons has vitamins and antioxidants, both of which can keep the skin smooth and healthy.
Acne can be annoying and stressful. Follow these tips and a healthy skin regimen, and watch your acne disappear!
