4 Ways to Boost Your Hydration

How much water do you really need to drink every day? Most of us have heard the recommendation of drinking eight, eight ounce glasses of water a day, but the reality is there is no exact formula that fits everyone. The 8-8 rule, if anything, is the minimum amount of water most people should be drinking. However, your intake should be adjusted depending on height and weight, the type of climate you’re in, the duration and intensity of exercise you do, if you are pregnant or nursing, and if you have any medical condition that your doctor deems more fluid intake as necessary. While there are numerous figures out there, the most important point is to ensure you’re staying hydrated. Drinking water throughout the day, not waiting until you feel thirsty to start drinking, and making sure your urine stays clear to light yellow in color, are a few ways to keep a check on your hydration.

Here are 4 easy ways to help keep you hydrated this summer, and all year long.

Invest in a portable water container

There is no shortage of options on the market today which means all you have to do is pick one (or two) that best suit your needs. Tervis offers various sized tumblers, and even water bottles, in a magnitude of designs that are sure to catch your eye. If you’re an active, on-the-go, and/or outdoorsy individual, Nalgene offers a variety of bottles that are durable, and eco-friendly. For those who like a sleek, modern-looking water bottle, Takeya offers their glass beverage bottles in a few sizes and a number of colors.

Dress up your water

They say you eat with your eyes first, so the same should hold true with drinking your water. Add thin slices of any citrus, cucumbers, berries, or mint, to zest up your water, without adding any unnecessary sugar or calories.

Nowadays there are even water bottles made especially to infuse your water with any fruit your heart desires. The Aqua Zinger offers a fun new way to enjoy drinking water and reduce food cravings. The Aqua Zinger water bottle works by subtly infusing water with flavors from the choice of fruits you pick.

Hold yourself accountable
Set a daily goal, in ounces, of how much water you want to drink. Based on the size of your water container, figure out how many times you need to refill daily. Keep track of how many times you’ve refilled by attaching rubber bands around your container, hooking paperclips to the loop of your Nalgene, or making old fashioned tally marks in your plan book.

Snack on fruits and vegetables with high water content
Fruits like watermelon, berries, and citrus fruits, are comprised of anywhere from 80-90% water, while veggies like cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower, and zucchini are comprised of over 90% water.

Not only are these healthy snacking choices, but choosing these tasty options can help in maintaining and improving your daily hydration.
